Does your student have a marine biology question? Ask it below or email us at marketing@virginiaaquarium.com and we might use it in a new video series on this page!
Have you noticed more of our live videos lately? GREAT! 😊
Unfortunately, we have some sad news to share. Large Male, one of our sand tiger sharks, has passed away. After monitoring him through the weekend, his health appeared to take a turn for the worse and our staff made the carefully considered decision to humanely euthanize him on Monday. Sand tigers are predicted to have a life span between 25 and 40 years, but with all elasmobranchs it is hard to gauge age unless you have a known birth/hatch date. He was approximately 29-30 years old. 😞
