This event in the urban heart of Town Center is designed to celebrate National Chess Day.

The National Chess Day Festival features include a multi-section tournament (with sections for both experienced and beginning players), free chess lessons, a simultaneous exhibition and take-all-comers blitz challenge by Virginia State champions, giant chess set, four-way chess, Plunder chess, Solitaire chess, Bughouse, and casual chess.

There is no cost to play with the Giant Chess Set or to play Bughouse, Casual Chess, Four-Way Chess, Plunder Chess, Solitaire Chess, or to get Chess Lessons. There is no cost for the take-all-comers Blitz Challenge with the Masters. Tournament Spectators are also free. There is a $5 entry fee for the simultaneous exhibition and a $5 entry fee for the tournament. Entry fees are payable on site with cash or check made out to HRCA. Card swipe capability may be available but is not guaranteed.
