Rocky Bleier, U.S. Army veteran and former Pittsburgh Steeler, will be the keynote speaker at the Tidewater Council, Boy Scouts of America’s Annual Leadership Breakfast. The event will be held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center at 7:15 AM on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.
Bleier earned a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for his courageous U.S. Army service during the height of the Vietnam War. Wounded in ambush, Bleier was barely able to walk when he returned home.
Two years later, Bleier overcame the odds and earned his place as the starting running back for the Pittsburgh Steelers. With the Steelers, he won four Super Bowls (IX, X, XIII, and XIV).
A member of Boy Scouts as a youth, Bleier said, “Being out, being involved and doing things with their hands and getting in groups where they interact with one another, that’s what Scouting does. It helps our youth to be better-rounded as they go through a growth period. It’s not only the creation of leadership but also responsibility, understanding what a community is about, hard work, and due diligence in getting the job done.”
The Tidewater Council Boy Scouts of America’s Annual Leadership Breakfast honors and supports the efforts of thousands of volunteers who provide a quality year-round Scouting program to youth in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina. All proceeds from the event remain local. Please contact Dr. Susan Miley-Petrehn for information about attending the event or sponsoring a table at 757-284-0796 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
