Luke Hillier, President and founder of Hillier Ignite and executive chairman of the board for ADS, Inc., first presented his proposal for the park to Virginia Beach City Council on Nov. 3, 2015. A site at 40th Street was originally selected, but the site location was changed to the location four blocks further south near the Edgewater Condominiums.

Luke liked the idea of having a fitness park on the beach so much, he decided to duplicate what he had seen in California and create it in Virginia Beach.

Get fit and test your strength and endurance... all without leaving the beach!

For those interested, let me tell you my story. I've been trying to find the right words to say this and I came to the conclusion that I will just have to say it however I can. I left on deployment back in January. At a point during deployment we came back home in June for a month just to leave again right before 4th of July. After leaving again i found out in our first port visit in Italy that my wife was pregnant. Needless to say me and my wife had given up on that idea several years earlier. We had tried and well no go. This baby was a complete surprise to both of us. In November me and the rest of my fellow Sailors were told we had got over paid. For those that are military or have been close to military folks, that means that the government will get there money back. They might be slow to pay the Sailor what he/she is owed, but they will take what's owed to them in a heart beat. Even if that means the Sailor is left with a $10 check. Luckily we didn't get over payed that much to see a $10 check. The amount was close to $800. With that said my family and others took a $800 hit in the month of November. That is enough to put even financially sound people in a struggle. Due to my wife's age and pregnancy she has had to cut hours out of her part-time job, meaning less income in the house hold. This year is the first year I have not been able to take advantage of black Friday specials. The kind of deals that help give the kids a good Christmas. Me and the wife had already mentally prepared for a tight Christmas celebration. The best we could do under the circumstances. A few weeks ago we put some needed items on layaway and a separate layaway for a crib and stroller. Friday I was able to go get the things my kids asked Santa for. Thankfully my kids did not ask for much this year. (Me and my wife don't talk about finances in front of our kids) It's like they knew we couldn't afford it this year. On the other hand they still believe in Santa Claus. I guess Santa got lucky this year! Yesterday morning me and the wife went to the Navy Exchage with a few things in mind. 1. Cancel the layaways we had. 2. Find a few more things for the kids. 3. Take advantage of the 14 day price guarantee. (I got a total of $22 back) When we left we forgot to cancel our layaways which included the layaway for the crib and stroller and we were still discussing what we would have for Christmas Eve dinner. Today, I got a phone call from the Navy Exchange. It went something like this: NEX: Can I speak with Mr. or Mrs. Santiago. Me: this is Mr Santiago. NEX: Do you have a layaway with us? Me: (Thinking to myself: did we miss the layaway payment) ah, yes. Nex: we have good news for you. Me: Ok? NEX: a Virginia Beach businessman came by and payed for your layaway. It was on the news yesterday. He's name is Luke Hillier. Me: you are shitting me! Sorry for the language. NEX: No sir, we're not kidding. I have seen this kind of nice gesture happen to others but not me. Then again I never found myself in the need for this kindness to be given to me. Until now. By the grace of God some random person by the name of Luke Hillier decided out of the kindness of his heart the he wanted to give joy to others. I just happened to be one of the recipients of his kind generosity and it happened at a time I was in need. I cannot describe the amount of stress you have taken off my chest. Thank you for your help! May God bless you and your family always! 🙏👼

Straight up Class Act Luke Hillier, especially with so much negative news these days its refreshing to see someone with your character step up and make such a difference. May God bless You and your precious Family and Merry Christmas!

What is Hillier Ignite up to this holiday season??? #staytuned
In the years following the Civil War, Memorial Day celebrations were scattered and, perhaps unsurprisingly, took root differently in the North and South. It wasn’t until after World War II that the holiday gained a strong following and national identity, and it wasn’t officially named Memorial Day until 1967. The final event that cemented the modern culture of Memorial Day in America was in 1968 when Congress passed the Uniform Holiday Act, designating Memorial Day as the last Monday in May rather than May 30, as it had previously been observed. This ensured a three-day weekend and gave the day its current status as the unofficial beginning of summer, mixing serious reflection with more lighthearted fun, as a way to heal.
