Top 3 Anti-Loitering Devices for Local Virginia Beach Businesses

Virginia Beach welcomes over 14 million visitors every year. Keeping the area safe and comfortable not only for them but also for those who live and work here is paramount. The fact is, however, that policing isn’t enough. Something as simple as rough sleeping can have an impact. That goes doubly for anti-social behavior, even if it happens in the dead of night.

That’s why businesses and even residential landlords are being recommended to use anti-loitering devices, and are currently considering one of these top options:

1.   MK4 Anti-Loitering Device

The top device on the market for deterring all forms of loitering is the MK4 from Mosquito Loitering Solutions. What makes this device stand out is its customizability. Not only does it have a teen and all-ages setting, but each setting can be set to one of two frequencies. Businesses employing the MK4 can also hook it up to motion sensors or timers, allowing them to protect their business and boardwalk from anti-social behavior, all without interrupting your vacation.

The MK4 features an all-ages setting that uses a lower frequency that adults, teens, and children alike can hear. As the lower 8KHz frequency is audible to everyone, it can be used after hours to discourage rough sleeping near your business, to keep your property free and clear for when the first customer walks in.

In comparison, the teen setting allows you to switch between 16KHz and 17.8KHz, allowing you to target young adults under 25 or even younger people. The higher 17.8KHz frequency is unlikely to be noticed at all by your adult customers, making it a great choice to deter teens from adult-only spaces or from loitering.

2.   Brocott BCT017

This is a lower-cost option with only one frequency setting at 16,500Hz, making it audible to only those under 25. Where it stands out is its longer frequency range of 50m, which can be used to deter loitering and other anti-social behavior by young people after hours, from a boardwalk business to the beach.

Brocott’s BCT017 comes with a wall-mounting unit, a mains power adapter, and an extension cord, making installation easy, though the less robust housing may reduce its lifespan by the beach.

3.   ABC Fire & Safety

Another teen-specific anti-loitering device is the ABC Fire & Safety. In addition to being the cheapest option in the list, it also boasts the widest range of 100sq meters and the highest dB rating. This means it’s loud, and it’s capable of covering wide spaces from a single advantage point.

The single 16KHz frequency option targets young people, though it won’t be as effective at discouraging rough sleepers. The wider range, however, does make it better suited to target large, empty spaces like parking lots or industrial sites, where teen and young adult street parties may occur.

Do keep in mind that the ABC Fire & Safety unit does seem to be a re-skinned rodent scarer from a German manufacturer. While there probably won’t be an issue, this does mean it’s not tested or approved for use on people and may cause headaches.
