If you’re planning a trip to the Hampton Roads region of Virginia or communities in the area for the first time, Virginia Beach is the one place you’ll want to go to. You’ll be quite surprised by the cool things you can do here to make your time here memorable, whether it’s a weekend or an entire week. It may be one of the lesser known travel destinations in the US (and that’s probably a good thing if you prefer some place a little less crowded). Here’s what you need to know about Virginia Beach before you go.

1.  Virginia Beach Has Three Beaches

When you book 5-star hotels in the USA in Virginia Beach, you could be closer to one of these three beaches. Imagine waking up and looking out your balcony with views of Chesapeake Bay Beach, greeting you with a warm “good morning. Or you could be looking for something a bit quieter, like Sandbridge Beach. Finally, Resort Beach has plenty of activities near the iconic Virginia Beach Boardwalk. The question is: which beach is more appealing to you?

2.  The Famous Boardwalk That You Need To Go To

Speaking of the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, it is a must-see whenever you’re in the area. You can ride a bike along it while also getting a good look at the ocean views. If you prefer walking, that’s fine too. You’ll be steps away from oceanfront stages where live music fills the air, scenic views, plenty of restaurants and cafes, and so much more.

You can rent a bike or a surrey to explore the boardwalk. The best time to get it done is at sunrise (if you can get up early enough) or early in the evening. Either way, you’d be kicking yourself if you didn’t do this.

3.  There Really Is No Right Or Wrong Time

Normally, when you read travel guides, you learn about the best recommended times to travel to certain destinations. If it’s Virginia Beach, there isn’t a right or wrong time to go. It all depends on your certain style of travel. Let’s take a look at the different times that may suit you best:

  • Summer: The weather is hot, activity levels and tourism are at their peak. It’ll be the perfect time for families and nightlife seekers alike.
  • Fall: If you favor mild temperatures, lower prices, and fewer crowds, you’ll find that the fall time will be the better option. Especially if you’re looking to go on a quieter trip or planning that second honeymoon (or first if you have yet to get hitched).
  • Winter: About the same as the fall. Excellent for a relaxing retreat, whether it’s before the holidays or after.
  • Spring: The temperatures are rising, gardens are blooming, and outdoor events are about ready to kick off. You might catch something that you fancy checking out. It may be peaceful or a little noisy, depending on how much later you travel.

The sweet spot for warm water and full beach activity will usually be around late June to early September. But still, the best time for you is whenever is best suited for…well, you.

4.  First Landing State Park Is A Hidden Gem For Visitors

Minutes away from the main resort area is First Landing State Park. This historic place is where the English colonists landed before establishing Jamestown in 1607. It’s also a place where beauty truly thrives. Here, the park features over 20 miles of hiking trails, excellent natural views, plenty of opportunities to go kayaking and boating, and much more.

If you’re someone who considers themselves an outdoor lover, then you’ll definitely want to make plans to visit the park, especially if the plan is to take plenty of pictures, go birdwatching, and explore the great outdoors.

5.  The Culinary Scene Is Growing

Yes, beach food is good food. Not only that, but the culinary scene in the area is also growing. Of course, seafood is one of the most popular options to consider whenever hunger strikes. Yet, at the same time, you have farm-to-table dining options, plenty of international cuisines, and even craft breweries that are truly making a name for themselves.

She-crab soup, oysters from the Chesapeake Bay region, fresh rockfish, and so many local favorites are a must-try whenever you’re in the mood to grab something to eat. So many choices, but where do you begin?

Final Thoughts

Virginia Beach has plenty of opportunities for you to experience the city and the region. Obviously, the boardwalk and the beaches are a must-see. But whatever fits your lifestyle and activities, this place just might have it. Choose a time that best fits your travel style, make plans to explore Virginia Beach, and come back home with new memories and stories that you can’t stop telling.
