Chick’s Oyster Bar
I have been to this place several times now. there is only a small section of it that has a see the rest of it is open to the outside and while you get a small breeze coming off of the water it is mostly just very hot and humid. I left yesterday so sticky from sweat that it was a little unpleasant. they have really good seafood great quality and the prices aren't too bad either. their happy hour specials cannot be beat this is probably the cheapest oysters you will get in the Hampton roads area. Overall it's a great place to come grab some seafood and chill on the water.
I was served cold FF and burger that was just warm. I got what looked like a used slice of lemon with my drink, not good. They don't have tables and chairs, they have picnic tables that are hard to get into. While the staff was nice the some were air heads. Will not come back. For the price, it should have been better.
I have always enjoyed Chick's in the past. I went Wednesday evening and it has slipped substantially from past visits as far as the quality of food. The view was still great and I guess that's what one pays for now. The beer was cold when served but in plastic cups gets hot fast unless one drinks quickly. The oysters were over cooked, not juicy, and had a thick 1/8" to 1/4" heavy batter unlike the light batter that was used in the past. The hush puppies were even bad. They were too "heavy" and not fluffy like they used to be. My comrades did not like their food either which included tuna tacos and wings. They said it was overcooked. The waitress was very good however.
If you visit or live on Shore drive you MUST go to Chicks! The food is great and they easily have the best Orange Crushes in Hampton Roads. Our waiter Cole was very helpful with the menu and was both friendly and funny.
The nightlife is great too! There is always a lot of friendly people enjoying great music and what is arguably the best water views in the city. The addition of the Cabana brings Chicks atmosphere to a whole new level! Definitely one of my favorite stops in Virginia Beach.
It's hard not to like this local gem. With open windows on all sides that allow a breeze no matter the weather. You're sure to enjoy the atmosphere.
With local beach, military, police and fire memorabilia as decorations you are humbled to drink and eat here.
The staff is almost always on point.
