I heard many great things about this restaurant, but I wasn't particularly impressed with it. The food was decent. I ordered calamari and blue crab. The calamari was decent, but I was served the smallest blue crabs I have ever seen. I also ordered a cocktail that was not mixed very well at all. Our server was nice, but wasn't around very much. Overall I don't think this restaurant lived up to the hype when I was there.
This was a complicated experience. We arrived at 7:15 with a large party on a Saturday night; we were told that the wait would be "40 minutes tops". We waited for a little over that at the bar; not too much longer, maybe closer to an hour. Some of the party, including me, waited at the bar and were greeted by some hospitable and friendly bartenders, which certainly helped to make the delay more tolerable.
When it finally came time for our 12-person party to be seated, they let us know that we would be split into two six person tables. This was disappointing, but we were hungry so we consented. After being seated, we ordered drinks and apps.
About 15 minutes later, our server returned and asked for our entree orders; drinks had still not come, so we ordered our entrees and asked about the status of those. She said that perhaps the keg was being changed, and that she'd get the beers ASAP. Those eventually came; during the wait I went to the restroom and was informed by my compatriots that the server had come back to confirm our orders.
A few minutes later, our beers arrived. Another 10 or so minutes after, the apps came, and then perhaps 20 minutes later, the entrees came. The wait was divisive; we later jokingly accused the restaurant of pitting us against each other.
The food was okay; not mind blowing but not disappointing; notably good items were the crab meat in the broiled seafood meal and the oysters Rockefeller appetizer. Really, it was the delays that were the rough part. My beer was served in a glass that had a pretty significant crack, also.
Overall, I'm understanding about the fact that this is a beach town seafood restaurant on perhaps the busiest weekend of the year to date. That said, it was a three hour outing, and the food was mostly just okay. While the bar was great, I have to give this place three stars, and some of my party who did not go to the bar probably would go lower.
The food was fabulous. We had raw oysters, calimari, crab cakes, stuffed flounder, fried oysters, (popcorn shrimp not so good from kids menu). They took 1.50 hours to get us our food so they gave 5 of us 1 piece of chocolate cake to help us feel better...we spent 179.00 plus tip. But the food was great. We enjoy each others' company so the wait wasn't deadly. We will go back again.
I came to visit Virginia for a short weekend and had a taste for seafood. I found this restaurant and I am please lad to say that I was more than satisfied with my choice. The service was amazing thanks to Meagan who was super sweet and the food was just as good. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Don’t miss out on their fried crab cake, the best I’ve had ☺️
A favorite for years! We love to go for lunch. The fresh fish is great! We love it blackened. They even offer a healthy salad mix you can add a protein too. The staff is very friendly and the water view out the back windows is pretty. You can even sit outside!
