Soya Sushi Bar and Bistro
Have been enjoying the wonderful sushi at Soya for years. It has always been “the” place for the best sushi. Unfortunately the wait staff on this particular night left us scratching our heads. It wasn’t a busy night, and not slow either. We walked in and stood by the cash register. A staff member called to us from the middle of the room and asked if we were dining in. When we said yes, she motioned us to come to her as she laid napkins and menus on the table. She said nothing else and walked abruptly away. The waitress seemed in a hurry. Never introduced herself, just kind of dropped the chopsticks on the table and left. Sushi was awesome as always. Wait staff left a lot to be desired. Staff is always changing here. Not sure why, but it’s now hit or miss with the level of service. Go for the sushi, but don’t expect great service.
The sushi here was absolutely amazing!! We got the 'Poke Ahi Tuna' (sushi bar appetizer), and the 'Golden Scallop' & 'Charlie Brown' & 'Soya Tempura' (house rolls). OMG!!! I cannot overstate how incredibly delicious these selections were. Our waitress 'Nomin' (goes by 'Nemo') was an absolute delight - so very friendly & personable, and provided excellent service! The chef 'Tony', who was quite humble, prepared one magical dish after another for us. I rarely take the time to write a review for anything - but felt compelled to make sure this restaurant got the praise they so rightly deserve. I will definitely be coming back here!
Service: excellent, even with a skeleton crew. Waiter Frank described options that turned out to be the best sushi I ever had.
The Allison roll was amazing.
Tony the Chef knows what he is doing.
My only regret is not discovering this place earlier in the trip.
Food: amazing. House Specialty rolls are highly recommended, 12 piece rolls. Large portion. Worth it.
Best sushi ever. Typed this before I even left the restaurant.
FABULOUS! Loved every type of sushi we tried! We didn't have a Groupon and feel the prices are reasonable. The waiter was very patient and explained the different types of sauces with the sushi. Highly recommend this restaurant! And they are alumni of Virginia Tech! Go Hokies!
So good! Great staff, great atmosphere, great food!! Absolutely delicious! Their special rolls are so beautifully done - it's not just served, it is DISPLAYED for you, and they are exquisite! Absolutely recommend this place if you like sushi, or just Japanese food in general! And the interior is beautifully kept and just very nice, with comfy seating. The staff are incredibly attentive while giving you space to enjoy your meal. I really enjoyed my visit here!
