Virginia Beach is a city with a thousand souls, from sunny days on the beach to excursions in natural parks, from the local flavors of seafood cuisine to the cultural and musical events that enliven the evenings. The streets exude the relaxed atmosphere typical of seaside resorts. With a few tips on how to best enjoy the city, your stay here is sure to be a pleasant one.

Tourists’ favorite activities

This area is famous for its beaches full of tourists who come to unwind for a few days; in fact, sunbathing and relaxing on the beach are among visitors’ favorite activities, and the wide stretches of sand are perfect for sunbathing or swimming in the Atlantic. Water sports are also very popular by the sea, with surfing, kayaking, parasailing and paddle boarding among the many different and enjoyable sports you can try every day. After a day spent exploring the beaches and nature trails, Virginia Beach comes alive at night with music venues, oceanfront bars, and cultural events that suit every taste. For those who also enjoy the thrill of gaming from home, you can visit oddschecker to discover trusted online options, while still diving into the vibrant local entertainment scene the city proudly offers. Bars, pubs and live music venues fill up with people, especially along Atlantic Avenue, and people of all ages gather to socialize and have a few drinks by the sea.

Most popular attractions

To get to know the city, there is nothing better than a nice walk along the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, a 5 km long promenade with cycle paths, iconic statues, such as that of Neptune, and many bars and restaurants. If you want to learn more about marine life, then you should visit the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Centre, an aquarium with underwater tunnels, sharks and sea turtles. If you prefer to learn about history, there is the Military Aviation Museum, with its collection of vintage aircraft from the First and Second World Wars.

Something for outdoor enthusiasts

For those who have relaxed enough and need something more intriguing, there are plenty of alternatives. For starters, the area is full of parks and hiking trails, such as those at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge, a large protected area with marshes, wild beaches and birdwatching. Another beautiful park is False Cape State Park, accessible only on foot, by bike or by boat, offering unspoilt natural landscapes. Red Wing Park, on the other hand, offers something more unique, with its Japanese gardens, sports fields and trails. Even more unique is Mount Trashmore Park, a huge urban park – over 160 acres – built in the 1970s on a former recycled landfill site. Today, it features artificial lakes, cycle paths and picnic areas, in short, it has been converted into an excellent example of environmental redevelopment.

Local food and beer

Of course, in a city overlooking Chesapeake Bay, good fish and seafood are a must! Oysters, Chesapeake Bay blue crabs and prawns are the stars of delicious recipes such as she-crab soup, a creamy soup typical of the Atlantic coast, or fish tacos and clam chowder, which are very popular along the Boardwalk. If you don’t like fish, don’t worry, because you can still try the famous Southern cuisine, which includes fried chicken, hush puppies and barbecue specialties. Virginia Beach is also known for its craft beer scene, with numerous microbreweries, so you can try local malts, both classic and more modern,  in the city’s many bars, facing the sea or sitting at a table with friends.
