About the Band

Category: Band
Music Genre: Bluegrass, Blues, Classic Country

Hey there blues music fans... welcome to the official website of Cole Stevens and The Delta Daggers! We are a performing blues band based out of the Hampton Roads area of the vibrant coastal cities of Virginia. We are offering our music for blues fans who love a new twist on classic tunes from the prewar delta masters and the early '50s blues artists we all know and love! Artists like Son House, Robert Johnson, Tampa Red, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, T-Bone Walker and The Three Kings just to name a few!

We also humbly offer a huge dose of original compositions steeped in Chicago style, West Coast swing and infectious Latin and funky New Orleans grooves for your listening and dancing pleasures!

Please visit our other pages on our website to learn more about each of us, our Delta Dagger mission and where to see our shows and more! Be sure to join the Delta Dagger email list for upcoming shows and events! We also have a Delta Daggers FB fan page you can join too! Dig in and poke around and remember kids... all dogs dig the blues! We are the go to private party blues band in Hampton Roads, wedding receptions, restaurants, blues festivals, house concerts, fish fry and house rent parties! We keep the blues alive in Norfolk, Yorktown, Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Richmond, Charlottesville, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Chesapeake just to name a few!

We are uniquely qualified and diverse in our blues shows. We can play all acoustic blues shows using resonator slide guitars and acoustic upright bass or all electric contemporary instruments. Our pre war delta style blues is a mixture of down home country blues, New Orleans jazz and west coast swing, Mississippi Hills all the way up to modern contemporary Chicago blues styles!

I love Albert King! He was also known as the “velvet bulldozer” by those who worked in his band. Hmm... Just like Albert King, I’m a southpaw that learned to play on right handed guitars. Albert King is one of the most revered and copied blues guitarist ever.

The difficulty for right handed players executing a deep whole step bends Albert King style guitar string bends is that you are required to push a string instead of grabbing a string with several fingers like Albert and effortlessly bending it by pulling it down. It’s painful, like pushing a stick down a sidewalk.

I always looked at it as a pay back for right handed players. When it comes to guitars and scissors... I always said; “Im just a boy who lives in a cruel right handed world.”
